PSE Index Ends Week Almost Flat as Bargain Hunting Supports Recovery

The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index ended the week nearly unchanged, closing at 5,629.03 points, down 0.44 point, or 0.008 percent, as bargain hunting helped the market recover from its intra-day low.

The index fell to a low of 5,589.59 points before recovering toward the close, breaking a pattern of closing at its intra-day low in the previous four trading sessions.
The industrial and property sub-indices ended higher, gaining 0.25 percent and 0.44 percent, respectively, while the other sectors declined.
Financials and holding firms each fell 0.15 percent, mining and oil declined 0.06 percent, and services dropped 0.47 percent. Market favorite International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI) declined 0.81 percent to ₱860 on trades amounting to ₱1.61 billion.
Market bellwether SM Investments Corp. recovered toward the close, gaining 0.61 percent to ₱495 after falling to an intra-day low of ₱486.20. Meralco closed at its intra-day low of ₱416, down 0.29 percent, after reaching a high of ₱435 during the session.
Property giants Ayala Land Inc. and SM Prime Holdings Inc. helped lift the property sector, gaining 0.26 percent to ₱15.14 and 0.06 percent to ₱15.86, respectively.
Value turnover reached ₱8.17 billion, while foreign transactions totaled ₱9.19 billion. Foreign investors recorded net selling of ₱1.25 billion, with foreign buying at ₱3.971 billion and foreign selling at ₱5.226 billion.
Market breadth remained negative, with 109 losers against 77 gainers, while 56 shares were unchanged.
