Company veteran Tim Noel has been named the new CEO, UnitedHealthcare confirmed in an emailed statement. Noel previously led the company’s Medicare and retirement division, according to its website.
He joined UnitedHealthcare in 2007 and had earlier worked on financial restructuring at Northwest Airlines during its bankruptcy proceedings.
Thompson, who was appointed CEO of UnitedHealthcare in 2021, had been with the company since 2004.
Luigi Mangione, 26, faces 11 charges in New York, including first-degree murder, two counts of second-degree murder, and additional weapon and forgery charges, according to an indictment.
Mangione has pled not guilty to state murder and terror charges. The high-profile shooting has renewed public scrutiny of the practices of insurance companies and the broader U.S. healthcare industry.
