AWS launched its first Ohio data centers in 2016 and currently operates facilities in central Ohio’s Franklin and Licking counties. The new investment will expand AWS’s operations to new locations, which are yet to be determined and depend on long-term energy service agreements.
The data centers will support cloud computing technologies, including artificial intelligence and machine learning. This investment builds on a $7.8 billion expansion announced in 2023 and $6 billion invested through 2022.
