OpenAI rival Anthropic is in advanced negotiations to raise $2 billion in a funding round that would value the startup at $60 billion, according to two sources familiar with the matter, as reported by Shirin Ghaffary and Lizette Chapman for Bloomberg News.

Lightspeed Venture Partners is leading the round, said the sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity due to the private nature of the discussions.

Three months ago, OpenAI raised $6.6 billion, nearly doubling its valuation to $157 billion. Last month, Elon Musk’s xAI announced it had secured $6 billion in new funding, concluding a months-long fundraising effort that valued the AI startup at more than $40 billion.

In November, Amazon.com Inc. revealed plans to invest an additional $4 billion in Anthropic. This investment, structured as convertible notes, began with a $1.3 billion infusion, with the remainder to follow at a later, unspecified date.
