In his speech during the distribution of financial aid to El Niño-hit farmers and fisherfolk in Leyte, Southern Leyte, and Biliran, President Marcos cited the ongoing construction of the PHP 2.57-billion Tacloban Airport.

“We are working on the Passenger Terminal Building, the airport runway, and additional roads to the airport while expanding the entire airport,” the President told the gathering of thousands of beneficiaries during the aid distribution in Palo, Leyte.

“We aim for this to be completed by 2026, which will bring more efficient and faster service to our fellow citizens,” he added.

These are expected to be completed by January 2026.

President Marcos also mentioned the construction of the PHP 4.59-billion Tacloban City Causeway, which is expected to reduce travel time from the city proper to the airport from 45 to 10 minutes.

The construction of the causeway includes an approximately 2.57-kilometer (four-lane) road embankment with separate bike lanes, sidewalks, and wave deflectors on both sides.

The project is expected to be completed by December this year.

“These projects are not only for the development of infrastructure in your province but also for ensuring the safety and security of your community,” the President said.

“With the cooperation of our military and police forces, we continue to add forces in certain areas in Leyte to maintain peace and order here. Above all, our continued unity will lead us to a better future,” he added.

President Marcos said the assistance from the government is a manifestation of the administration’s efforts to prepare a brighter future for Filipinos.
