"Mirai no lemon sour" (future lemon sour) drinks will be available in limited quantities and sold exclusively in Tokyo and nine other prefectures in the Kanto-Koshinetsu region.
In Japan, the name "sour" is generally used as a collective term for cocktails based on spirits mixed with carbonated water, fruit juice, and other ingredients.
The company developed the drink to go into the mug-can of its popular "Super Dry" beer brand, which naturally produces fine foam when the top is opened. Japan's "lemon sour" drink market has been booming in recent years, and competition is fierce.
Asahi hopes to attract new customers by using the popular can with a fully opening top.
