Chery: A Brief History

Chery Automobile Co., Ltd. began operations in 1997. It is now a foremost, leading Chinese international automobile brand.

Chery has always insisted on independent innovation over the past 20 years, developing a global automotive R&D team of more than 5,500 people and steadily establishing the holistic technology and product R&D system.

The company has successfully produced product brands such as Arrizo, Tiggo, and the high-end EXEED brand, with global sales totaling more than 10 million units. The new pure electric OMODA series is also now on the market in Italy.

Since its inception, Chery has pursued a globalization strategy, becoming China's first passenger car company to export whole vehicles, Completely Knocked Down (CKD) components, engines, manufacturing technology, and equipment to the global market.

Chery has exports in more than 80 countries and regions, with over 1,500 sales and service outlets and more than 1.8 million accumulated export volume, remaining China's largest exporter of passenger vehicles for 19 years in a row.

In 2012, Chery and Jaguar Land Rover Motors jointly invested in the establishment of Chery Jaguar Land Rover Motors Co., Ltd., which is China's first Sino-British joint venture high-end automobile company.

As the vehicle industry transitions into the Age of Electrification, Connection, Intelligence, and Sharing the demand for the brand’s very own Lion Operating Systems has also grown.

On the Tiggo 8 and EXEED variants, the newest Chery Lion 2.0 system has been installed, supporting features like voice control, facial recognition, augmented reality navigation, internet service, and smart home synergies.

Based on information technology advancements, Chery will integrate smart transport, intelligent manufacturing, IOT and blockchain, dedicated to providing an intelligent interconnected lifestyle for global consumers in the new era.

More recently, Chery has successfully created products for first- and second-generation unmanned driving, and it intends to achieve L4-level, highly autonomous driving by 2025.
