China To Cut Import Tariffs On Recycled Copper, Aluminum

China will lower import tariffs on ethane and certain recycled copper and aluminum raw materials starting next year, the government announced, Reuters reported.

The reductions include tariffs on ethane and recycled copper and aluminum materials to support green and low-carbon initiatives.

The Ministry of Finance outlined several tariff adjustments effective January 1, 2025, as part of efforts to boost imports of high-quality products, expand domestic demand, and promote high-level economic openness.

Provisional tariffs below the most-favored-nation (MFN) rates will apply to 935 items, the ministry stated.

The reductions include tariffs on ethane and recycled copper and aluminum materials to support green and low-carbon initiatives.

Conversely, tariffs will rise for items like molasses and sugar-containing pre-mixed powders, while decreasing for others, such as cyclic olefin polymers, ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymers, and specialized automatic transmissions for vehicles like fire trucks and repair vehicles.

Additional tariff reductions will apply to items including sodium zirconium cyclosilicate, viral vectors for CAR-T tumor therapy, and nickel-titanium alloy wires used in surgical implants.
