The criminal operations have also led to the exploitation of Chinese immigrants, many of whom are smuggled into the country and forced to work in abusive conditions on marijuana farms.
Tragically, some women are coerced into prostitution to serve the criminal bosses. These activities are overseen by organized crime syndicates rooted in southern China, operating in a loose but disciplined confederation with a presence in New York.
