The Bureau of Customs reported collections of P179.44 billion from January to April this year, down by 7.29% from its year ago level of P193.55 billion.
Collections could have been higher were it not for the congestion that hit the ports making shipments unable to load . Also contributing to the decline was the lack of signatures on port documents that led to delays in the handling of the cargo.
Last minute changes in the ECQ such as that of exemptions from the ECQ led to the lower collection shortfall from the customs bureau which was just short by P27.15 billion or 13.14 percent of the target of P206.59 billion for this four-month period. #coronavirusimpact #COVID19
