The oil tanker Eventin, carrying 99,000 tons of oil, was towed to the harbor in Sassnitz, Germany, after losing its ability to maneuver in the Baltic Sea near the island of Rügen, Deutsche Presse-Agentur (DPA) reported.

Two tugboats kept the Panamanian-flagged vessel stable approximately five kilometers off the coast until it was safely brought to port. Germany's Central Command for Maritime Emergencies (CCME) stated the ship is watertight and poses no environmental risk.
According to the ship tracking platform Vesselfinder, the Eventin was en route from Russia’s Ust-Luga port to Egypt's Port Said.
The vessel is reportedly part of Russia’s "shadow fleet," used to bypass sanctions on its oil exports. This fleet has been scrutinized by organizations such as Greenpeace amid ongoing EU and UK sanctions imposed on Russia's oil industry following its 2022 invasion of Ukraine.
