Recent drone strikes have targeted refineries such as the Ilsky and Afipsky facilities in Russia's Krasnodar region, as well as the largest refinery in southern Russia located in Volgograd.
Additionally, attacks have occurred near the Ukrainian border, with a notable incident affecting a Novatek facility in Ust-Luga, disrupting gas processing operations.
Sergey Vakulenko, a former strategy executive at Gazprom Neft, expressed concern that such attacks could jeopardize over 50% of Russia's refinery production if they continue to target key facilities.
Russia heavily relies on oil and gas export revenues to support its economy, with these revenues contributing significantly to the federal budget. The increased vulnerability of Russian refineries underscores the broader implications of drone attacks on the country's energy sector.
