Europe, Canada Poised to Dump U.S. Fighter Jets

Writer: By The Financial DistrictBy The Financial District

Concerns are growing in Canada and Europe over whether investing in high-end U.S. weaponry, such as the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, remains a strategic priority, the Associated Press (AP) reported.

Some NATO countries are reconsidering their reliance on U.S.-made defense systems and exploring European-made fighter jets as an alternative.

In less than two months, U.S. President Donald Trump has upended decades of foreign policy, leaving NATO members uncertain about whether Washington will honor its trans-Atlantic defense commitments in the event of a Russian attack on Europe.

As Russia’s war in Ukraine continues, it has become apparent that many Eastern European NATO members still maintain large stockpiles of Soviet-era weapons that aren’t compatible with Western military systems.

This incompatibility has led some NATO countries to reconsider their reliance on U.S.-made defense systems and explore European-made fighter jets as an alternative.
