Freeport Delays Indonesian Copper Sales To Q2 2025 After Fire

US copper miner Freeport-McMoRan will delay its sales of refined copper from Indonesia until the second quarter of 2025 due to a fire at its new smelter, according to two sources with knowledge of the matter, Reuters reported.

Long production delays at the new Manyar smelter, which has an output capacity of 480,000 metric tons of copper cathode annually, are expected to narrow the anticipated 2025 surplus of the metal and support prices.

Freeport said earlier on Tuesday that it is investigating the cause of the fire at a sulfuric acid unit at its Manyar site in East Java province. The fire was extinguished late on Monday.
