The 5G Automotive Communication Module is a technology based on 5G mobile connectivity designed to provide ultra-fast connections, ultra-low latency and hyper-connectivity.
It is an essential technology to advance autonomous driving and the connected system, based on the processing of a large volume of data and on real-time connections.
This 5G communication module combines communication chip, memory, RF circuit, and GPS; the company plans to leverage this technology for 5G connected vehicle telematics services.
Telematics refers to technology that uses a mobile communications network to share vehicle information with an external control center to improve safety, convenience and infotainment experiences.
The main examples of telematics are remote vehicle control, OTA updates, real-time traffic data sharing and eCall (an emergency call system). Hyundai Mobis aims to reach audiences globally with an integrated solution based on V2X communication technology and its latest 5G communication technology.
The solution offers a wide range of applications for safer and more convenient mobility for drivers: sharing data recorded by sensors between vehicles, automatic deceleration around schools, and controlling vehicles in the event of an emergency. However, it is still in its infancy and is therefore classified as a technology for the mobility of the future.
Today, luxury automakers around the world are in a real R&D race to deploy an integrated 5G V2X technology solution in cars.
Joon-bae Choi, Head of Connectivity & Sound Sector at Hyundai Mobis, said, “We will strive to develop differentiated mobility technology that combines integrated 5G V2X technology with existing autonomous vehicle sensors and our IVI technology, which gives us a competitive advantage over our competitors."
