India has dismissed a news report claiming that the government failed to prevent European buyers from transferring Indian-made artillery shells to Ukraine, BBC News reported.
The report "implies violations by India, where none exist, and hence, is inaccurate and mischievous," Randhir Jaiswal, the foreign ministry’s spokesperson, wrote on X (formerly Twitter). I Photo: A.Savin Wikimedia Commons
In a story published on Thursday, Reuters alleged that artillery shells sold by Indian arms manufacturers had been diverted by European customers to Ukraine.
The report claimed that the transfer of ammunition had been ongoing for over a year, and that Delhi had taken no action to stop it, despite repeated protests from Moscow.
India's foreign ministry called the report "speculative" and "misleading." The report "implies violations by India, where none exist, and hence, is inaccurate and mischievous," Randhir Jaiswal, the ministry’s spokesperson, wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Jaiswal further emphasized that India has an “impeccable track record of compliance with international obligations” on arms non-proliferation and has its own stringent export rules.
