The company will send sake rice, water, and yeast to the International Space Station (ISS) for fermentation inside the experimental Kibo module, under a program approved by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency.

The project, scheduled for late 2025, aims to explore the feasibility of producing alcohol in space, inspired by the concept of future lunar colonization.

An astronaut aboard the ISS will mix the ingredients, and fermentation progress will be monitored remotely from Earth.
