Reid’s namesake show, "The ReidOut," has been a staple of MSNBC’s evening programming since 2020.

In the hour-long newscast, which aired on weeknights at 7 p.m. ET, Reid conducted interviews with politicians and other newsmakers, covering a wide range of political issues and the intersections of race, culture, and social justice.

Reports of MSNBC canceling The ReidOut emerged online over the weekend, sparking outrage from supporters who highlighted the show’s role in elevating historically marginalized voices in the media landscape.

MSNBC President Rebecca Kutler later confirmed Reid’s departure in a memo to staff, obtained by the AP.

"Joy Reid is leaving the network, and we thank her for her countless contributions over the years," Kutler wrote.

In the coming weeks, rotating anchors will host Reid’s time slot. Later, Symone Sanders-Townsend, Michael Steele, and Alicia Menendez—who currently co-host "The Weekend," another MSNBC program—will transition to weekdays at 7 p.m. to launch a new ensemble news program, according to the memo.

Before Kutler’s memo was released, Reid took to social media to thank those who had reached out with messages of support over the weekend.
