CEO Stephan Winkelmann explained that the brand's decision reflects its assessment of the luxury sports car market. “We do not think 2029 is late for an electric car. In our segment, the market is unlikely to be ready in 2025 or 2026,” he said, according to Reuters.
This delay comes as competitors like Ferrari plan to introduce their first electric model next year. European automakers face challenges transitioning to EVs amidst lagging sales and evolving regulatory pressures.
