Writer's picture: By The Financial DistrictBy The Financial District

Two trawlers out of the port of Mazara del Vallo in Sicily were seized by Libyan authorities on Wednesday, September 2, 2020.

However, alert crewmen in two trawlers from the Mazara fleet outwitted the Libyans and escaped, the Italian news agency ANSA reported.

Italian officials said the captured trawlers were the Antartide and Medinea.

The two trawlers were apprehended about 35 nautical miles north of Benghazi. Seizures of Italian trawlers in disputed waters are fairly frequent, the news agency added.
