The partnership aims to promote the use of smart metering technologies to empower consumers and enhance grid reliability. The MOU was formalized during the KEPCO Smart Metering Week 2024 in South Korea.

It was signed by Meralco Vice President and Head for Revenue Assurance and Metering Services Marvin G. Gonsalves, KEPCO Corporate Senior Vice President, Chief Safety Officer, and Chief Operating Officer Lee Jun Ho, and KEPCO KDN Vice President for Electric Power Intelligence Safety Division Kim Yong Ho.

The agreement will foster knowledge-sharing between Seoul and Manila, focusing on digital technologies and emerging business trends. It also aims to promote cooperation in developing the smart metering business, securing local partners, and strengthening networks in both countries.

“Our collaboration with KEPCO and its KDN is part of Meralco’s commitment to leveraging new technologies and continuously innovating to provide more reliable and efficient service for the benefit of our customers,” said Marvin G. Gonsalves, Meralco’s Vice President and Head for Revenue Assurance and Metering Services.

To further develop smart metering initiatives, the MOU includes training and cooperation to enhance understanding of the technologies involved.

Meralco has been at the forefront of integrating smart metering technologies into its distribution network since 2011. These efforts have improved operational efficiency, enhanced grid reliability and resiliency, and, most importantly, empowered customers by giving them better control over their energy use.

With a customer base of 8 million, Meralco continues to lead in the energy sector, making significant investments to ensure reliable, stable, and safe electricity service for its consumers.
