The initiative, aptly named “Greening the Meralco Operating Center (MOC),” is a testament to Meralco’s commitment to embedding sustainability into its operations.

As part of this collaboration, Meralco’s corporate social development arm, One Meralco Foundation (OMF), recently received a generous donation of over 1,000 seedlings from Celeasco.

This contribution was symbolically handed over by Celeasco during a ceremonial tree-planting event attended by Meralco Chairman and CEO Manuel V. Pangilinan, who personally accepted the seedlings.

The donated seedlings will be planted across various sites within the MOC in Pasig City, significantly contributing to Meralco's urban reforestation efforts aimed at improving air quality in the Ortigas business district.

The initiative highlights the company’s resolve to make a tangible environmental impact right in its own backyard.

“Greening the Meralco Operating Center is more than just a project—it underscores our commitment and resolve to protect the planet, beginning here in our own backyard,” said Meralco First Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer Raymond B. Ravelo during the tree-planting ceremony.

OMF President Jeffrey O. Tarayao also emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in driving meaningful change.

“This is not only our commitment to making Meralco the lungs of the Ortigas business district, but it is really the propagation of a culture of malasakit and bayanihan for the country and our planet,” Tarayao, who also serves as Meralco Chief Corporate Social Responsibility Officer, stated.

This partnership is part of Meralco’s broader initiative to promote environmentally responsible practices through two flagship programs under its sustainability agenda, “Powering the Good Life.”

The first, “One For Trees,” has seen over 2.3 million trees planted across the country, while the second, “PowerPlants,” is an urban farming initiative at various Meralco facilities.

These programs not only play a crucial role in Greening the MOC but also empower Meralco employees to actively engage in the company’s sustainability goals.

The company hopes to inspire stakeholders to join the collective movement for environmental stewardship, with efforts deeply rooted in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and supported by the pillars of Power, Planet, People, and Prosperity.

With such initiatives, Meralco is setting an example for other corporations to follow in integrating sustainability into their operations, reaffirming that businesses can be a force for good in addressing the challenges of our time.
