California officials said that the U.S. military did not enter the state and release a large flow of water, contradicting a claim made by President Donald Trump in the latest dispute between Trump and state leaders over water resources, Christopher Cann reported for USA Today.

Trump, who visited fire-ravaged parts of Los Angeles last week, wrote on Truth Social on Monday night: “The United States Military just entered the Great State of California and, under Emergency Powers, TURNED ON THE WATER flowing abundantly from the Pacific Northwest and beyond.”

He falsely added, “The days of putting a Fake Environmental Argument over PEOPLE are over. Enjoy the water, California!!!”

The California Department of Water Resources quickly refuted Trump’s claim, stating, “The military did not enter California.”

Instead, the agency clarified that federal officials had “restarted federal water pumps after they were offline for maintenance for three days,” emphasizing that “state water supplies in Southern California remain plentiful.”

California Gov. Gavin Newsom dismissed Trump’s claim and attempt to take credit, stating, “Maybe the president doesn’t know that there’s not a spigot that can be turned to solve all the water problems he alleges exist—problems that don’t exist—when it comes to the state water system here in California.”

Terry Collins, Bart Jansen, and Zac Anderson also contributed to the report for USA Today.
