“As the leading builder of AI, we engage in countermeasures to protect our IP, including a careful process for determining which frontier capabilities to include in released models. We believe it is critically important to work closely with the U.S. government to best protect the most capable models from efforts by adversaries and competitors to take U.S. technology,” OpenAI said in a statement.
OpenAI’s comments followed a White House announcement that it is evaluating potential national security risks posed by DeepSeek. David Sacks, the White House’s AI and crypto czar, warned that an AI technique called "distillation" could allow Chinese firms to learn from U.S. AI leaders.
