Theoretical physicist and author Michio Kaku has belittled chatbots, describing them as just “glorified tape recorders that would be rendered obsolete by a different computing revolution, Christiaan Hetzner reported for The Conversation.

The technological advances offered by generative artificial intelligence (AI) such as chatbots are nothing compared with what quantum computing has in store for mankind, Kaku argued, revealing that AI merely assembles data since it cannot think creatively.
Kaku noted the fact that the recent frenzy around ChatGPT and similar generative AI technologies has been massaged well via media sensationalism that overstates the capacity of AI and even warns that technology “could destroy” mankind.
Nonetheless, he claimed that this sensation would not overshadow the impending breakthrough in quantum computing.
