(SMGP) have joined forces to inaugurate the Philippines' premier integrated liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility in Batangas.

The collaborative effort between AP, MGen, and SMGP signifies a watershed moment in the Philippines' energy narrative.

Valued at a staggering US$ 3.3 billion, this venture encompasses the acquisition and development of key assets, including the 1,278 MW Ilijan power plant and a cutting-edge 1,320 MW combined cycle facility slated for operation by late 2024.

Moreover, the triumvirate will spearhead investments in the LNG import and regasification terminal owned by Linseed Field Corporation, consolidating the nation's position within the global natural gas supply chain.

Beyond its infrastructural magnitude, the integrated LNG facility promises to democratize access to competitively priced energy for Filipino consumers.

By ushering in over 2,500 MW of generation capacity, complemented by advanced LNG storage and regasification capabilities, the collaboration is poised to stimulate economic growth while upholding environmental stewardship.

Powering this transformative initiative, Sabin M. Aboitiz, AP Chairman, underscores the symbiotic relationship between LNG and renewables, emphasizing the strategic importance of diversified energy sources in driving economic progress.

“Both LNG and renewables are needed to achieve a balanced energy mix and well-planned energy transition. Above all, this is a big win for the Philippines and the people. LNG, or liquefied natural gas, represents a revolutionary paradigm in energy transportation and utilization.

By liquefying natural gas at temperatures nearing -260°F (-162°C), it becomes significantly denser, facilitating efficient storage and global transportation aboard specialized vessels.

Upon arrival at regasification terminals, LNG is converted back into its gaseous state, primed for diverse applications ranging from manufacturing to generating electricity.
