PSE Index Downward Spiral Continues

The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index continued its downward spiral Friday, with all sub-indices closing in the red.

The benchmark index dropped 61.54 points or 1%, settling at 6,084.19. Friday’s closing marked another significant decline, with analysts warning that the market could test a new low below the 6,000-point level.


Trading saw strong participation from local investors, with total turnover reaching ₱11.69 billion, of which ₱5 billion came from local trades.



All sub-indices were down, with services and mining & oil suffering the heaviest losses at 2.72% and 2.89%, respectively.


Financials declined 0.55%, industrials fell 0.39%, holding firms dropped 0.23%, and property retreated 0.97%. Market bellwether SM Investments lost ₱5, closing at ₱780. A total of 102 stocks declined, while 74 gained, and 56 remained unchanged.



Foreign buying amounted to ₱2.656 billion, while foreign selling reached ₱3.394 billion, resulting in net foreign selling of ₱738.5 million.


Ayala Corp., Jollibee Foods, DITO CME, Abacore, Integrated Microelectronics, National Reinsurance, Century Pacific Food, Citicore REIT, First Gen, Manila Water, Cosco Capital, GT Capital, Cebu Landmasters, Citicore RT, DoubleDragon, Filinvest Land, ABS-CBN, GMA-7, Cebu Air, PH Resorts, and Haus Talk were up at the close.



ICTSI, Ayala Land, SM Prime, Philex Mining, PhilWeb, China Bank, Union Bank, ACEN Corp., Emperador, Aboitiz Power, Monde Nissin, Megaworld, MREIT, Globe Telecom, PLDT, Puregold, Belle Corp., Bloomberry, Apex Mining, Wilcon Depot, Nickel Asia, Atlas Mining, PNB, and Alliance Global ended the day in the red.


DigiPlus, SSI Group, BDO Unibank, Alternergy, Semirara Mining, DMCI Holdings, SPNEC, AgriNurture, and Figaro Coffee were unchanged.
