PSE Index in Another Gain

The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index rose slightly today, fueled by continued net foreign buying and a surge in gold prices. It closed at 6,323.13 points, up by 10.01 points or 0.16 percent.

The mining and oil sub-index posted a hefty rise as gold prices hit a new record of over USD 3,000 per ounce, reaching USD 3,050.


This powered the share price of Philex Mining, which entered the Top 10 most active stocks, rising by 11.54 percent to P7.15, a 74-centavo gain, with trades amounting to P237 million.



Converge was also among the top-traded stocks, breaking past P18 and closing 3.76 percent higher at P18.78, up by 68 centavos.


Other sub-indices that gained were Industrials, up 0.50 percent, Holding firms, up 0.13 percent, Services, up 0.17 percent, and Property, up 0.98 percent. The only sector that posted a loss was financials, which declined by 0.42 percent.



Market bellwether SM Investments rose by P2 to P810, while the top-traded Ayala Corp lost P2 to P604 on trades amounting to P521 million.


Total value turnover reached P5.59 billion, while net foreign buying amounted to P166 million, with foreign buying at P3.284 billion and foreign selling at P3.117 billion. The market recorded 103 gainers, 98 losers, and 44 unchanged stocks.



Finishing in the green were Metrobank, Atlas Mining, Manila Mining, China Bank, PNB, Security Bank, Union Bank, Meralco, SPNEC, Emperador, Monde Nissin, Universal Robina, Abacore, Megawide, DMC Holdings, Ayala Land, SM Prime, Filinvest Land, Puregold, Belle Corp, and United Paragon.



On the other hand, DigiPlus, Jollibee Foods, Bank of the Philippine Islands, ACEN Corp, First Gen, Aboitiz Equity, JG Summit, DoubleDragon, Figaro Coffee, OceanaGold, PLDT, DITO CME, GT Capital, Ginebra, Semirara Mining, D&L Industries, MRC Allied, and Alternergy ended the day in the red.


Meanwhile, BDO Unibank, Manila Water, San Miguel, Wilcon Depot, Vista Land, Globe Telecom, AgriNurture, and San Miguel ended the day unchanged.
