PSE Index In Muted Rise

The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index posted a muted rise today, driven by continued foreign buying, closing higher at 6,313.12 points—up by 28.44 points or 0.45 percent.

Net foreign buying amounted to ₱392.2 million, with foreign buying totaling ₱3.555 billion against foreign selling of ₱3.163 billion. Also contributing to the index's rise was increased local buying, which exceeded ₱1 billion.


Value turnover reached ₱7.84 billion, of which local buying stood at ₱1.2 billion.



Second-liners, such as DITO CME and PhilWeb, rose, with the latter's share price tripling in three weeks due to continued speculation. The financials sector led the market, offsetting losses in services, which declined by 0.81 percent, and mining and oil, which dropped by 1.26 percent.


With BDO Unibank and Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) posting gains, the financial sector rose by 1.35 percent.



The industrial sector gained 1 percent, property rose 0.41 percent, while holding firms saw only a fractional gain of 0.01 percent, as market bellwether SM Investments declined by ₱5 to ₱808.


The market saw 93 gainers, 88 losers, and 63 unchanged shares.



Ending the day up were Emperador, China Bank, Metrobank, PNB, ACEN Corp, Basic Energy, Citicore RE, Meralco, Manila Water, Petron, Synergy Grid, SPNEC, Figaro Coffee, Universal Robina, CEMEX Holdings, Ayala Corp, GT Capital, LT Group, AREIT, DoubleDragon, SM Prime, Vista Land, ABS-CBN, Globe Telecom, PLDT, Converge, Bloomberry, and ENEX Energy.



Stocks that lost were ICTSI, DigiPlus, Ayala Land, Jollibee Foods, Security Bank, PSE, Ferronoux Holdings, Semirara Mining, Alternergy, AbaCore, Alliance Global, Cosco Capital, JG Summit, Belle Corp, Apex Mining, Atlas Mining, Nickel Asia, and Philex Mining.


Unchanged were Union Bank, Ginebra, Monde Nissin, Cebu Air, Vitarich, Steniel, Century Properties, Robinsons Land, and OceanaGold.
