The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index posted a surprise surge Wednesday, closing at a peak of 6,144.96 points, up by 80.80 points or 1.33 percent.

Only the Mining and Oil index declined, while all other sub-indices recorded significant gains. Financials gained 1.56 percent, Industrials rose 1.30 percent, Holding Firms increased by 1.22 percent, Services went up by 0.33 percent, and Property climbed 1.45 percent.
The market opened at 6,070.59 points, initially losing another 12 points before recovering in small increments and closing at its peak.
The unexpected surge was driven by a dramatic shift in foreign investor interest. There was a net foreign buying of ₱166 million—relatively small but enough to attract analysts' attention.
Foreign buying amounted to ₱2.914 billion, while foreign selling reached ₱2.748 billion.
BDO Unibank emerged as the most actively traded stock, with ₱675 million in transactions, rising by 2.35 percent to ₱147.90, up ₱3.40. Market bellwether SM Investments recorded a muted gain of ₱7 to ₱781, despite reaching a high of ₱794 during the session.
The Mining and Oil index dropped by 1.52 percent as Philex Mining, OceanaGold, Nickel Asia, and Apex Mining posted losses.
Total value turnover amounted to ₱5.306 billion, with 93 gainers, 85 losers, and 60 unchanged stocks.
Among the gainers were Jollibee Foods, Universal Robina, JG Summit, SM Prime, Century Properties, Vitarich, Metrobank, Union Bank, Basic Energy, SPNEC, Keepers Holdings, Aboitiz Equity, Citicore RT, Megaworld, PLDT, Converge, Cebu Air, Puregold, DigiPlus, Wilcon Depot, Meralco, and Manila Water.
On the losing side were Ayala Land, PNB, ACEN Corp, Aboitiz Power, DNL Industries, Monde Nissin, GT Capital, LT Group, MRC Allied, VistaREIT RT, Robinsons Land, Philippine Seven, Cebu Landmasters, Cemex Holdings, ABS-CBN, and Ginebra.
Meanwhile, ICTSI, Alternergy, San Miguel, DoubleDragon, Axelum, Shakey’s Pizza, Abacore, MREIT RT, Figaro Coffee, and AgriNurture remained unchanged.
