PSE Index Staves Off Volatility To Close At A Gain

The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index rose Wednesday in a volatile pre-market close, with the market fluctuating before finishing 24.92 points higher, or up 0.41 percent, at 6,119.88 points.

The market closed mixed, with Financials and Services declining by 1.05 percent and 0.47 percent, respectively.


Meanwhile, Industrials gained 1.16 percent, Holding Firms rose 0.98 percent, Property increased 1.83 percent, and Mining and Oil surged 4.73 percent, driven by rising gold prices.



As a result, Philex Mining emerged as the third most active stock, with ₱307 million in trades, climbing 16.82 percent to ₱5.07, up 73 centavos. Other mining stocks also gained traction, including second-liners such as Lepanto, Manila Mining, and United Paragon.


Property giants Ayala Land and SM Prime continued their upward trend.



Ayala Land rose 5.31 percent to ₱24.80, up ₱1.25, while SM Prime closed at ₱23.15, gaining 30 centavos or 1.31 percent.


Total value turnover reached ₱5.17 billion, with 98 gainers, 89 losers, and 59 unchanged stocks. Net foreign selling amounted to ₱515 million, with foreign buying at ₱2.060 billion and foreign selling at ₱2.575 billion, bringing total foreign trades to ₱4.6 billion.



Gaining were Universal Robina, DigiPlus, Citystate Savings, China Bank, PNB, Security Bank, National Reinsurance, ACEN Corp, Alternergy, Vantage, Citicore REIT, Meralco, Manila Water, Century Food, Semirara Mining, Emperador, Ginebra, Century Properties, Puregold, Wilcon Depot, Atlas Mining, Apex Mining, OceanaGold, SPNEC, and D&L Industries.



On the other hand, market bellwether SM Investments (down ₱3 to ₱795), Union Bank, Aboitiz Power, Jollibee Foods, San Miguel, Megaworld, Filinvest Land, Haus Talk, Alliance Global, Globe Telecom, PLDT, Belle Corp, and Cebu Air, closed in the red.


AREIT, Bloomberry, VistaREIT, First Gen, AgriNurture, Shakey’s Pizza, Greenergy, AbaCore, and DoubleDragon remained unchanged.
