Russia announced its suspension of all Japanese seafood imports, following a move by China, in response to Tokyo's release of treated wastewater from the damaged Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant, reported Japan Times.

Rosselkhoznadzor, Russia's regulatory body for agricultural products, stated it was implementing these measures as a precautionary step, mirroring China's restrictions on fish and seafood imports from Japan.

The restrictions will continue until comprehensive information confirming the safety of seafood products is provided.

China had previously banned all Japanese seafood imports due to the release of Fukushima water, a move that led to strong opposition from neighboring countries, including China, which imported over $500 million worth of seafood from Japan the previous year.
