“There is not one specific thing—no particular threat, no health issue, and no big personal issue,” Anderson wrote in a letter posted on the firm’s website.
“The intensity and focus have come at the cost of missing a lot of the rest of the world and the people I care about. I now view Hindenburg as a chapter in my life, not a central thing that defines me.”
While other prominent short sellers have retreated in recent years due to lawsuits, short squeezes, and government probes, Anderson maintained his reputation as a fearless researcher.
He made headlines in January 2023 by accusing Adani of “pulling the largest con in corporate history.”
At the time, the Indian tycoon was ranked the world’s fourth-richest person by the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
Anderson followed this with reports targeting Dorsey’s Block Inc. and Icahn’s Icahn Enterprises. Despite vehement denials from all three parties, the trio saw their combined wealth drop by as much as $99 billion, while their publicly traded companies lost up to $173 billion in market value in 2023.
