Son, Altman To Unveil AI Investment Push In Japan

SoftBank Group Corp. founder Masayoshi Son will take the stage in Tokyo alongside OpenAI CEO Sam Altman as part of a global initiative to drive investment in AI-related infrastructure, Min Jeong Lee, Takahiko Hyuga, and Issei Hazama reported for Bloomberg News.

At an event titled "Transforming Business Through AI," the two leaders will be joined by Arm Holdings Plc CEO Rene Haas and Junichi Miyakawa, the head of SoftBank’s telecom division.


According to Nikkei, the group will seek backing from hundreds of Japanese companies for a large-scale effort to build data centers, power plants, and other AI-supporting hardware.



Later that day, Son and Altman are scheduled to meet with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba. SoftBank is collaborating with OpenAI, Oracle Corp., and Abu Dhabi-backed MGX on a multibillion-dollar initiative to construct AI infrastructure in the U.S. for ChatGPT’s developer.



The Stargate Project, as it is called, plans to invest an initial $100 billion, with a goal of spending at least $500 billion over the next four years to expand computing power and AI capabilities.
