Taiwan Bans Chinese Rapper's Concert Over "Taipei, China" Promo Materials

Taiwan has canceled a planned Taipei concert by a Chinese rapper after he used the term "Taipei, China" in promotional materials, which the island considers insulting.

The Associated Press (AP) reported that Wang Yitai's September 14 concert has been scrapped, and the rapper from Chengdu has been banned from the island.

Taiwan's Mainland Affairs Council announced the decision late Sunday, stating that the term "Taipei, China" implies that Taipei, the capital of Taiwan, is a Chinese city under Beijing's rule.

This language echoes China's position on potentially annexing Taiwan by force, thereby undermining the island's democratic government.

Chengdu is also home to the rap group CD Rev, known for their nationalistic tracks that have drawn international attention, some of which include offensive references to Taiwan and former President Tsai Ing-wen.
