Taiwan Is For The Taiwanese, Not For Xi: President Tsai

Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen said on Saturday her mission in life was to ensure the island continued to belong to its people and not to any foreign country, Ben Blanchard reported for Reuters.

As head of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), Tsai has been stumping for her partymates in the local elections in Taiwan, where only about 2.3% of the population still thinks “reunification” with China is possible.

President Tsai argued that Taiwan's existence was a provocation to no one, a fiery pre-election rebuff to China, which has insisted the self-governing island is its province despite the absence of any historical proof, like Beijing’s claim to 90% of the South China Sea (SCS).
