Tesla Recalls 380,000 Vehicles Over Power Steering Issues

Tesla is recalling nearly 380,000 vehicles in the U.S. due to a power steering assist failure, which could increase steering effort at low speeds and raise the risk of crashes, CNN reported.

More than 50 vehicles were reportedly towed due to some completely losing steering control and others struggling with increased effort.

The recall comes after a year-long investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), which found that some Tesla owners reported steering failures—with some completely losing steering control and others struggling with increased effort.

More than 50 vehicles were reportedly towed due to the problem, according to NHTSA's findings last year.

In a separate report, Reuters revealed that tens of thousands of Tesla vehicles have experienced suspension and steering part failures since 2016. Tesla documents and insider interviews suggest that these issues were known within the company.

In its NHTSA filing, Tesla identified some 2023 Model 3 sedans and Model Y crossovers with outdated software that could trigger overvoltage failures, potentially damaging motor drive components on the printed circuit board.
