According to Business Insider, Tesla sold just 1,429 vehicles in Germany last month, while the country's overall electric vehicle (EV) market grew by 31%.

The Federal Motor Transport Authority noted that Tesla’s German sales had also declined in January, following CEO Elon Musk’s public endorsement of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party ahead of the February 23 election.

Tesla’s sales declines were not limited to Germany. In Norway and Denmark, sales were down 48% year-over-year, while Sweden saw a 42% drop. France recorded a 26% decline.

Sales of Tesla vehicles manufactured in China also took a hit, with the company selling just 30,688 units in February—a 49% year-over-year decline and the lowest figure since August 2022.

Meanwhile, Tesla’s Chinese rival, BYD, posted a staggering 90.4% increase in vehicle sales that same month.

Tesla’s stock price initially fell 4% in early trading on Tuesday before rebounding slightly, closing with a 1.8% gain on Wednesday afternoon. However, the company’s shares remain down 28% for February.

Industry analysts suggest that Tesla’s struggles are due to a mix of rising competition and growing concerns over Musk’s increasingly political public persona.

Some investors worry that his involvement in global politics and his role in the Trump administration’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) may be impacting Tesla’s brand perception.
