The latest Reuters/Ipsos poll found the president’s approval rating at 43%, a two-point drop from the late March iteration of the survey. After Trump began his second term on January 20, his approval stood at 47%.
In the latest poll, 37% of respondents approved of Trump’s handling of the economy, and only 30% supported his approach to addressing the high cost of living.
A majority of Americans—52%—said that hiking tariffs on cars and auto parts would negatively affect the people close to them. A similar share said that increasing tariffs across the board, as Trump announced on Wednesday, would make things worse rather than better.
Roughly a third of GOP and GOP-leaning voters said that tariffs would harm the economy. The survey also showed declining approval due to the leaked Signal chat involving multiple members of the Trump administration.
