Noem is expected to lead the agency with two key immigration hardliners—Stephen Miller and Tom Homan—slated for senior roles, indicating Trump’s commitment to his hardline immigration agenda.
By selecting Noem, Trump ensures a loyalist at the helm of DHS, a department he views as crucial to his domestic priorities.
During Trump’s previous term, DHS experienced significant turnover, with five leaders, only two of whom were Senate-confirmed.
With a $60 billion budget and hundreds of thousands of employees, DHS oversees agencies such as US Customs and Border Protection, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and the US Secret Service.
As DHS Secretary, Noem will manage this vast department and implement Trump’s priorities on immigration and border security.
