The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) employees were among hundreds of Energy Department workers who received termination letters recently. The Energy Department is responsible for designing, building, and overseeing the U.S. nuclear weapons stockpile.

The layoffs are part of President Donald Trump’s broader effort to downsize the federal workforce, a campaign he initiated on his first day back in office, less than a month ago.

U.S. media reports, citing sources familiar with the matter, indicate that more than 300 NNSA staff members were let go. According to CNN, the layoffs included personnel stationed at facilities where nuclear weapons are built, sparking serious concerns about national security risks.
