The UK has not ruled out aligning its food and farming standards with European Union (EU) regulations to regain smoother access to EU markets, Trade Secretary Jonathan Reynolds said, as reported by Faisal Islam for BBC News.

Reynolds emphasized that such a deal would not violate the government’s "red lines" and could lower trade barriers without revisiting Brexit debates over customs unions or the single market.
Reynolds’ comments followed a meeting with EU Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
Sefcovic expressed optimism about a potential agreement that includes "dynamic alignment" on standards and enhanced pan-European customs cooperation.
"We can improve the terms of trade with the EU while simultaneously strengthening global trade links," Reynolds said, noting that the government’s strategy aims to balance these objectives without reopening old Brexit arguments.
