Britain's competition watchdog has launched investigations into the mobile ecosystems of Apple and Google under new digital market regulations designed to curb Big Tech abuses, Kelvin Chan reported for the Associated Press (AP).

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is examining whether Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android warrant “strategic market status.” Such a designation would require changes to their practices in areas like app stores, operating systems, and web browsers.
The investigations come as the CMA flexes its enhanced regulatory powers, which took effect earlier this year.
These rules aim to protect consumers and businesses from unfair practices by large technology companies. Earlier, the CMA launched a probe into Google’s search ads business under the same legislation.
