Ammunition depots and chemical plants were hit across several regions, some located hundreds of kilometers from the border, according to the General Staff of Ukraine's Armed Forces, as reported by Sarah Rainsford and Maia Davies for BBC News.

Sources within Ukraine's SBU intelligence agency described the overnight operation as a "painful blow" to Russia's military capabilities.

At least nine airports in central and western Russia temporarily halted operations, while strikes in the southwestern Saratov region prompted school closures.

In the Bryansk border region, explosions at a refinery, ammunition depots, and a chemical plant producing gunpowder and explosives were reported, a Ukrainian security source told the BBC.

Kyiv also launched attacks much deeper into Russian territory, with the General Staff claiming strikes on targets up to 1,100 kilometers (700 miles) from the border.

Officials in the Saratov region reported a "massive" drone attack, with two industrial plants in the cities of Engels and Saratov sustaining damage, according to regional governor Roman Busargin on Telegram.
