Unable To Find Equipment Makers, NJ Offshore Wind Project Seeks 2nd Delay

A New Jersey offshore wind project has requested a second delay, citing persistent difficulties in securing manufacturers for crucial turbine equipment.

This marks another setback for the offshore wind industry, Wayne Parry reported for the Associated Press (AP).

Leading Light Wind previously secured a pause from the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities, which acknowledged challenges in finding a manufacturer for turbine blades critical to electricity generation.

That initial pause expired on December 20. A day earlier, Leading Light submitted a request for an additional stay, this time through May 20.

While the company did not explicitly attribute the second delay to a lack of blade manufacturers, it referenced "significant price volatility" in the offshore wind equipment market.

"The company has not yet identified a solution to that volatility," the request stated.

“This additional time will allow us to continue to navigate ongoing market shifts and supply chain challenges as we work to advance development of this important project for New Jersey,” said Wes Jacobs, project director, in a statement.
