Undocumented migrant mothers in the United States gave birth to as many as 250,000 children in 2023, the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) estimated, Mike Heuer reported for United Press International (UPI).
The Center for Immigration Studies estimates between 225,000 and 250,000 births among undocumented mothers in the U.S.
The center estimates between 225,000 and 250,000 births among undocumented mothers in the U.S., though it acknowledges a relatively low confidence level in that estimate.
“Up to a quarter million births to illegal immigrants is hardly trivial,” CIS officials said in an online statement.
“It appears to be more than the number of births to legal non-citizens, and it exceeds the total number of births in all but two individual states.”
The center anticipates an even higher number of births in 2024. While the 2023 birth estimate remains preliminary, CIS officials do not expect a significant upward revision as more data becomes available.
“We have not formally updated our estimate since publishing a 2018 report on the subject,” center officials stated.
