The United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) is urgently appealing for an immediate ceasefire and humanitarian access to the Gaza Strip.

The call comes as hundreds of thousands of children and their families are fleeing northern Gaza, as reported by the Associated Press (AP).
UNICEF states that children and families in Gaza are now facing severe shortages of food, water, electricity, medicine, and safe access to hospitals due to days of hostilities and disruptions to supply routes.
UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell emphasized, "The situation is catastrophic, marked by relentless bombing and a significant increase in the displacement of children and families. There are no safe places."
UNICEF has reported that their staff is tirelessly working to address the critical needs of children throughout the Gaza Strip, but access is becoming increasingly perilous and challenging.
