The debate, featuring Minnesota’s Democratic Governor Tim Walz and Ohio’s Republican Senator JD Vance, took place five weeks before Election Day, as millions of Americans are now able to cast early votes.

Throughout the debate, both candidates highlighted the stark differences between their respective parties' policies and candidates while introducing themselves to the national electorate.

The debate opened with a discussion on the threat Iran poses to U.S. interests and regional stability. Walz redirected the conversation to criticize Donald Trump, saying, "Steady leadership is crucial," while pointing to Trump’s erratic behavior, including his obsession with crowd sizes and responding to global crises through social media.

Vance countered by promising a return to "effective deterrence" under Trump, while also attacking Vice President Kamala Harris’s record in the Biden administration.
