Mr. Joey Gurango brings with him a 40-year track record in the technology industry, having worked at both startups and Blue Chip software firms, in the Philippines and abroad.

Mr. Gurango was elected as Xurpas' new Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer on June 3, 2022, with effect on June 6, 2022. Joey, a highly experienced business leader, will succeed Mr. Nix Nolledo as Chairman, who is stepping down voluntarily to allow Mr. Gurango to take over the company's leadership.
Mr. Nolledo's resignation will take effect on June 6, 2022, but he will continue to serve as an advisor to the Xurpas Board of Directors.
Mr. Gurango has spent four decades in the technology industry, giving him a unique historical perspective on the IT industry, having lived through several of its cycles. Joey's career began in the 1980s at Apple and Microsoft in the United States, during the home computer boom.
He began his career at Microsoft as a software developer and rose through the ranks to become the Asia-Pacific Director of Products and Services for Microsoft Business Solutions in the early 2000s.
Mr. Gurango is also a successful entrepreneur, having founded Match Data Systems (MDS) in 1987 in Seattle, USA, MDS Philippines in 1991, MDS Australia in 1996, and Gurango Software in 2003. Great Plains Software and Kation Technologies both purchased MDS and Gurango Software, respectively.
“The challenges and opportunities facing Xurpas are very different today than even just a few years ago,” said Nix Nolledo, Xurpas co-founder and outgoing Chairman, “so we are very excited that Joey is coming on board to steer the company through this next, exciting phase. Xurpas is increasingly a B2B company, and Joey is the perfect candidate to take things forward. I am happy to step down, knowing that the company will be in good hands.” said Nolledo.
Mr. Gurango attended the University of the Philippines, Diliman in Quezon City, where he majored in Industrial Engineering.
He also studied Electrical Engineering at the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington, USA, and was named one of the country's Ten Most Inspiring Technopreneurs by the Philippine Center for Entrepreneurship in 2006, and he served as President of the Philippine Software Industry Association from 2013 to 2014. Since 2014, he has served as an Independent Director of Xurpas.
