The figure disclosed by Zelenskyy on social media far surpasses a South Korean National Intelligence Service report from December 19, which indicated that at least 100 North Korean soldiers had died and around 1,000 were injured.
The North Korean troops reportedly struggle to counter drone attacks and lack combat experience.
Analysts also highlight poor coordination with Russian forces, primarily due to language barriers.
"There are risks of North Korea sending additional troops and military equipment to the Russian army, and we will have tangible responses to this," Zelenskyy wrote in his post, as also reported by Mainichi Japan.
